Weekend Preview – Busy European Weekend for GB Judo

This weekend sees a number of GB Senior and Junior stars compete in Romania and Austria at European Open and Cup competitions.

Our seniors will head to Romania as Cluj-Napoca plays host to the European Open. There are thirteen GB players in action at the event, including gold medallists from last weekend’s Senior European Cup in Podcetrtek, Eric Ham (Geoff Ham) and Shelley Ludford (Adrian Dove). Bronze medallist from last weekend Scott Thomson (Davie Reilly) is also competing.

2018 European U23 silver medallist Jamal Petgrave (Andy Ede) is also set to compete following a recent training camp in Israel.

For the women, joining Ludford are European Games bound Chelsie Giles (Simon Moss), multiple European Championship representative Kimberly Renicks (Louise Renicks) and 2018 European U23 Championship silver medallist Lele Nairne (Pete Douglas).

Action in Romania will get underway at 8:00am GMT.

With the World and European Junior Championships later this year, Leibnitz traditionally acts as ‘warm-up’ event with a large number of players expected to compete from across the globe.

Following her gold medal at last weekend’s Senior European Cup in Podcetrtek, Kelly Petersen-Pollard (Fitzroy Davies) leads a strong GB Judo contingent making the trip to Austria. She will be joined by Lachlan Moorhead (Matt Moorhead/Gordon Lambert) who recently took bronze medals at the European Junior Cups in Coimbra and Kaunas, and Michael Fryer (Laurie Rush). The full GB Judo team travelling to Leibnitz is listed below, and live action from the weekend can be viewed on the British Judo Homepage from 8:30am GMT.
