World Junior Championships – Day 3 Review
October 18, 2019
Day 3 at the World Junior Championships saw European Junior Champion and world number 1 seeded player, Kelly Petersen-Pollard (-70kg) and European Junior Championship bronze medallist, Lachlan Moorhead (-81kg) take to the tatami.
Petersen-Pollard had an opening round bye before facing Mina-Agneta Ricken (GER) in a repeat of her second-round match at the recent European Junior Championships. The previous encounter between the two was a cagey affair with Petersen-Pollard winning by a single waza-ari score. However, on this occasion, with the score tied at the end of the regulated 4-minutes the match entered Golden Score where the German scored a waza-ari to cause a huge upset and defeat the Briton.
Lachlan Moorhead entered the competition in the second round after an opening round bye. He faced world number 11 Giga Abuashvili (FRA) a player he too faced in the second round of the European Junior Championships last month. However, it was the French player who was victorious on this occasion winning by an ippon score.
